Today's reflection came to mind when I read Elon Musk's statements about the possible purchase of Twitter saying that he was doing it to improve freedom of expression, and for that he would eliminate part of the content moderation of said platform .

It is curious and quite embarrassing how some use the image of freedom of expression, to ensure that only is said what is convenient for them. That is what all the powerful do, both individuals and large companies.

Because let's not fool ourselves, today freedom of expression does not exist in social networks. It is a concept that has become obsolete and has been replaced by the algorithms that dominate what people see on social networks.

If someone thinks that they can freely express what they want and that it will be seen on social networks, they are deluded. In social networks, you see what is convenient for the platform you see, based on algorithms that take into account maximizing the benefits of that platform.

Today social media platforms are huge companies dedicated to extracting and selling the data of their users. And they want people to get hooked and stay with them as long as possible to get more data from them, and therefore more money.

Therefore, algorithms promote news that makes people stay connected online and communicate with others. The more time on the network and the more interactions, the more data is generated and the more money the platform gets.

It does not matter if what is communicated is true or false. Once the lies are made the hate messages spread more and better, thus generating more money for the company.

On the other hand, the algorithms used are totally secret and nobody knows how they work. And of course they are modifying them to make them generate more interactions. The more interactions, the more money generated.

I don't know the dark and underlying reasons why Elon Musk may want to buy Twitter, but I am clear that it is not to promote freedom of expression, but perhaps rather the opposite.

Dear friends, do not look for freedom of expression in social networks, because it is not there. It was kicked out a long time ago.
