For those who do not know, disinformation is spreading everywhere, and yes, it also reaches Wikipedia.
Wikipedia was created in 2001 with the aim of having a free and global encyclopedia with the contribution of people. You only need a computer and an Internet link to be able to provide information available to everyone in more than 300 languages.
It is published in many languages, although English is the most used, and in each language there are people (volunteer editors) who dedicate part of their time to keeping the information free and truthful.
The problem is that in some languages there are few people working (in the order of 10 people) and the information that is posted can be more easily manipulated, and end up being misinformation.
In English it’s more difficult to manipulate because there are in the order of 40,000 people providing information and they can correct the attempts to misinform from a few.
It has been proven that in some languages misinformation (I would call it lies) about climate change and other issues has been introduced, including conspiracy theories.
The manipulative desire of some may seem surprising, but we must bear in mind that there are many vested interests, and very especially dictatorial powers that will fight with all their means (which are many) to misinform (I would rather say deceive) the greatest number of people possible.
Dear friends, the quality of the information we have on Wikipedia depends on the work of those people (volunteer editors) who contribute their time and effort for the benefit of all of us.
