The misinformation of anti-vaccines circulating on social media is a true global shame. People in the name of freedom of expression are dedicated to broadcasting false and / or malicious information on a multitude of topics.
And one of them is Covid-19. Since possible vaccines began to be developed to reduce or eliminate this problem, a multitude of information (actually misinformation) appeared on the networks about how bad vaccines were.
And they haven't stopped since. Saying that it killed people, that it produced infertility, and other atrocities like that. And the owners of social networks (Facebook, YouTube, etc ...) have allowed all this especially because it brings them income.
The more people move on the networks, the more data they obtain and therefore more data they sell and consequently more money they get.
It is known who the main originators of the anti-vaccine disinformation are. There are 12 individuals with many followers who in turn have others, and so on. And in a short time millions of entries are obtained by stirring up the lies.
You Tube recently announced that it is going to ban disinformation about Covid on its network, which I think is good but very late. Why has it taken them more than a year to decide something that seems so reasonable? What interests are moving them now?
Because we don't have to be naive and mislead, they haven’t decided that for the common good.
I don't know when our society, led by politicians, will tackle the serious problem of misinformation on the Internet. And being the politicians involved I am the most pessimistic.
If someone publishes a false story in a newspaper, that newspaper can be punished fairly quickly. But the same does not happen on the Internet, and you can lie on purpose and with total impudence.
Anti-vaccine misinformation should not be allowed. It has taken us more than 100 years to achieve the current high sanitary standards, and that effort cannot be thrown into the garbage can.
All this generates significant social damage and many people warn of the risk that it can pose to the democracy we have.
Will we react? Everything points to no, and it is a great shame.
