It has been a few days since the end of COP28, and in general I think it has been another missed opportunity. Surely there will be "optimists" who will point out that it has been "historic" because for the first time it speaks of the "fossil fuel transition", but we must not be fooled because the meaning of the words is very manipulable, and very especially in the world of politics.

One thing is what is said, and another thing is what is done, but what counts in the reality of each day is what is really done. And the reality is that carbon emissions continue to increase, as if “tomorrow” would never come.

The limit of global warming continues to be set at 1.5ºC (Paris Agreement of 2015), when it has already been proven that we are above that figure and we continue to increase it. At the same time we increase oil extraction wells.

Bringing people or countries with totally opposing interests to an agreement is very difficult, if not impossible. Countries that have big businesses selling oil will never accept anything to stop having their businesses. They would be stupid, and they are not.

And countries that have common interests and concepts of life also seem foolish, for not collaborating with greater intensity to solve the enormous problem of the Climate Crisis that we have upon us.

Countries that really want to solve this challenge should collaborate more intensely among themselves with investments that help us displace fossil fuels as soon as possible. And as soon as possible means as soon as possible, with realistic and achievable objectives, that have to be explained to its citizens to achieve their involvement and commitment.

The PROBLEM before us is not solved with good words or good intentions, but with effort, certain sacrifices and hard work.

Politicians are deceiving people with good words, because what interests them is to continue in power as long as possible, but they are not solving the problem of our descendants.

And most of us are numb and unaware of the painful future we are leaving for our grandchildren. I feel sorry for them, who will pay the consequences of our stupidity and selfishness.
