There is a lot of talk about the transition to green energies, but in general the involvement of citizens so that this transition occurs as soon as possible is unknown. That is why I found a very interesting work carried out over 4 years in 30 European countries to find out as accurately as possible what European citizens have done since the year 2000.

The work has been carried out by researchers from Universities (Norwegian and others) and has been called:  Statistical evidence for the contribution of citizen-led initiatives and projects to the energy transition in Europe  and has been published in   Scientific Reports 2023

The work can be downloaded at:  https://www.researchgate.net/publication/368943257_Statistical_evidence_for_the_contribution_of_citizen-led_initiatives_and_projects_to_the_energy_transition_in_Europe

The objective of the study is to find out what European citizens are doing to promote energy transfer, and they have taken into account all the Projects to generate sustainable energy that have been carried out by individuals in 30 European countries.

They verified that there were more than 22,000 projects, in which more than 2 million Europeans participated, and that they had generated on the order of 9 Gigawatts of power. Below I show a summary photo.

Most of these projects are for the installation of solar panels to generate energy, since this technology is very well adapted for small groups of people. And if all the contributions are added, the investment made exceeds 6 billion euros, which is not negligible, but it is very little (just 1%) compared to what has been invested in Europe since the year 2000.

And we must also be aware that this is very little compared to the needs we have to obtain renewable energy. That is why these clean technologies must be promoted by governments and administrations, with the contributions of aid that are necessary.

There is a lot at stake, because it is the future of our grandchildren and of the following generations.
