Practically all the governments of the world are against point-to-point encryption between users because that prevents them from knowing what is being communicated between those users, both text, photos or whatever.

And it is true that without knowing these communications they cannot completely “protect” citizens, especially the weakest such as children. But on the other hand, we citizens feel that our privacy is more protected with these encryption measures.

Almost all networks like WhatsApp, Signal, etc… offer point-to-point encryption between users, so that not even the company that offers the service is capable of knowing what is being transmitted.

A simplified scheme of operation is shown in the photo below. The APP of a mobile encrypts the message and many 1s and 0s come out of the mobile that can only be decrypted when they reach the other mobile. No one down the road knows what is being sent and received.

Also when we use the internet, we can see in the URL search line a small lockpad on the left that tells us that this communication is encrypted between us and the URL with which we communicate, but that information is available if a government wants to see it.

This is not the case with the mobile APPs that we use so much to communicate with our friends and family. And there is the fight.

There is a very strong pulse between the companies that support encryption and the governments that want to control it. And there are more and more users who use it, so it is very difficult for governments except in the case of totalitarian governments.

We users want to keep our privacy away from the eyes of any type of government, and we have the right to do so. On the other hand, I understand that governments must fight against criminals of all kinds, but without undermining our priority.

The best is the enemy of the good, and we can't have everything under control. And I believe that our privacy cannot be negotiable.
