Every day more attempts are made to put information on our glasses, to allow us to interact with them. And Augmented Reality (AR) is a possibility that has good possibilities for its development in these types of devices.

Augmented Reality is a technology that superimposes a computer-generated image onto the user's view of the real world, thus providing a composite view. AR has the potential to revolutionize many industries, including education, healthcare, manufacturing, entertainment, etc...

There are many attempts to put information in a glass so that the user can interact, and it remains to be seen which applications will end up imposing themselves on the market. Meanwhile, new companies appear that make their proposals to try to occupy a place in that market niche, which in the near future could be very large.

One of the quite promising AR devices is the   Monocle  from Brilliant Labs company. Monocle is a small and lightweight device that clips on to glasses. It is powered by a 70 mAh battery and has a 20-degree field of view. Monocle is open source, which means anyone can modify and hack it. And what can be hacked is a serious problem that the manufacturer should solve as soon as possible.

The prototype has gone on sale for a price of the order of 350 euros, I suppose with the intention that people try it and improve its features, which at the moment are quite limited. Once the Monocle is paired with your smartphone, you can start exploring augmented reality experiences.

Monocle can be a good AR device that has the potential to revolutionize the way we interact with the world around us.

Here are some additional technical details about Monocle:

• Monocle is powered by a Nordic Semi nRF52832 System-on-Chip (SoC) with a separate GoWin GW1NR-9 Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) connected via an SPI bus.

• Has a 640x400 color OLED screen with a 20 degree field of view.

• It has a 5MP camera and a microphone.

• Monocle is open source, which means that anyone can modify and hack it. Watch out !!!   OJO !!!

I like Monocle's commercial approach, as it is a stand-alone device that can be attached to any glasses (easily clipped on) at a more than reasonable price. It will depend on the Applications that the manufacturer is able to offer to the market for this device to be a sales success or not.

Augmented reality is a rapidly growing technology. As the technology continues to develop, we can expect to see more amazing AR experiences, and many of the big brands like Apple and others indicate that they want to enter that market.

The possibilities of augmented reality are almost endless. As technology continues to develop, we can expect AR to become an increasingly important part of our lives.

What remains to be seen is who is at the forefront of this market niche.
