Within future mobility, hydrogen seems to be a product that has many possibilities of being used in various applications, and especially in vehicles that require traveling long distances, such as trucks, trains, planes, ships, etc...

Hydrogen needs to be stored at high pressures (up to 700 bars) and it must be ensured that these tanks are completely safe and lightweight. And the alternative is to use composite tanks, but you must ensure that these tanks are structurally safe.

At the Fraunhofer Institute they are developing a project to include sensors in the composite tanks, and measure them continuously in order to analyze at all times what happens in the tanks and ensure that they do not degenerate, and do not put at risk the hydrogen they contain.

The tanks also have pressure relief valves, which open automatically if the pressure of the hydrogen inside exceeds a certain value. And this helps prevent the tank from exploding if it is overheated or exposed to impact.

Fuel tanks for hydrogen-powered vehicles are critical components that must be safe to ensure the safety of passengers and other road users.

There is still a lot to do, but there are already some companies working on the standardization of hydrogen fuel tanks according to how they are used in cars, trucks, airplanes, etc...

In the case of cars, it seems clear that batteries are going to prevail as an energy storage system, but in the case of larger vehicles, hydrogen has certain possibilities.

Hydrogen is a difficult product to transport, but if it is placed in a secure tank, its transportation is greatly simplified, and for a vehicle it would be very easy to remove an empty tank and place a filled one. In just a few minutes the change could be made safely.

The challenge of moving vehicles in a sustainable and non-polluting way is so enormous that it is very possible that all the real alternatives we have will need to be used. And hydrogen can be good for some cases.

Time will tell us how this matter evolves.
