Projects to capture carbon are being launched all over the world, but most of them are launched by fossil fuel companies to emit less carbon into the atmosphere during their production process,

This technology is called CCS (Carbon Capture and Storage), and carbon capture can be done by extracting it from the air, or from an industrial process that generates a lot of carbon.

In this way, many companies can say that they collaborate in the non-emission of pollutants, although they are dedicated to the exact opposite. It is a perfect example of what is called "green washing", but people in general believe what they are told and do not know the reality.

There are currently more than 30 plants operating throughout the world, 11 under construction and more than 150 at the study level, which will begin to be built in a short time. This business is booming.

But as I said before, most of these projects are related to the production of gasoline and gas, and others to the fertilizer industry, which is also very polluting.

And it is true that when a CO2 extraction plant is placed in a fossil fuel production plant, the entire plant pollutes much less, but the fuel they manufacture and sell pollutes the same as always.

I'm not saying that putting carbon extraction in a refinery is a bad thing. It is better that CO2 extraction is included in the production process, and that way the refinery pollutes less. The bad thing is that this is a temporary and circumstantial patch, because the ultimate goal should be to stop using fossil fuels.

In the coming years, all fossil fuel companies are going to make investments of this type in order to transmit the message that they “do not pollute”. And we users must be very clear about what the real situation is, so as not to be fooled and continue betting on the replacement of fossil fuels as soon as possible.

Let's not be fooled by the "green washing" of companies!
