In fact, after being "dead" for a few years and "resurrected" to return to manufacturing mobile phones with the Android system, Nokia has announced that it is abandoning the niche of high-end mobile phones, and is going to concentrate only on offering mobile phones of middle and low range.

Nokia knows a lot about mobile phones and has cutting-edge technology in 5G transmissions, something that Ericsson also has and that is outside the mobile phone market. Neither of these two companies are what they were, but they survive in their niche markets.

Nokia wanted to be someone in the mobile world again and announced high-end models but the harsh reality of its sales I guess has led it to make this tough decision.

The high-end of mobile phones is controlled by Apple with an iron hand, and the others (Samsung and others) sell what they can, and in reality they do not sell many of these terminals. Apple is the undisputed king of that niche.

That is why Nokia's decision to focus on selling mobile phones in the mid-range and possibly low is quite logical. But this is not going to be easy, as there are many companies that stick to that part of the cake.

I think that Xiaomi is one of the strong ones, although it is not the only one. With the exception of Apple, all brands offer some models in the mid-price range, so competition is fierce.

And to make it more difficult, any new brand that appears in the mobile market (and I'm surprised that some new ones continue to appear), starts selling its products in that market niche.

I have always had a special affection for Nokia, perhaps because my first mobile phones were from that brand, and partly because it manufactured very good terminals (those that did not break), but I think it will not be easy for it to maintain itself.

In mobile phones there are no longer so many innovations each year, and people have stopped changing them as often as before and they make them last longer, so companies have to fight harder to sell each new terminal.

I wish the best to our friends of Nokia and that they are able to stay in the market. At the moment, and together with Fairphone, they are the only European companies that remain in the mobile market. I hope they last a long time.
