As Artificial Intelligence is introduced in all fields, it is also already introduced in the field of weapons, and new weapon systems that work autonomously are continually being presented. Which implies a risk for all.

An autonomous weapon system can kill people without human intervention. Objectives with certain characteristics are assigned to it, and the system searches for them, locates them and when it finds them, it destroys them. Without any human "feeling".

As stated by the Secretary General of the United Nations (António Guterres): the prospect of machines with the discretion and the power to take human life is morally repugnant. But despite this they exist and they will not stop evolving, that is, improving their capabilities to kill.

This type of weapon has the special peculiarity that you do not need to be a great power to build it, but to have good technological capabilities, as is the case of Israel and other not very large countries.

When a weapon of this type kills a person, it is very difficult to define responsibilities, since everyone (the one who makes it and the one who uses it) has good excuses for not feeling responsible. But someone ends up dead.

There is a campaign called Campaign to Stop Killer Robots promoted by many world-renowned people that tries to raise awareness to ban these types of weapons, but I think they have little chance of success, since three important countries such as the USA, Russia and the UK oppose it, and other countries say nothing but work in that field and try to advance as much as they can

I understand that in any situation where a lethal consequence to a human may occur, there should be a person within the control system to make the final decision. Machines are faster, but they don't reason.

If we do not do so, we will continue taking firm steps towards the disaster of our society.
