When General Dynamics introduced its dog-like robot a few years ago, I liked the idea because of the versatility it offered to be used for different needs, especially because of its size and its “walking” system. It is not very large in size (low center of gravity) and its four legs give it very good stability, which makes it ideal to be used as an autonomous weapon.

The idea evolved and many copied it to make four-legged robots that perform surveillance functions, control facilities, etc…. and due to its flexible and adaptable movement system.

They have recently taken a new step in that direction, and what had to happen has happened, that someone has come up with the idea of placing a weapon on the robot's body, in order to be able to shoot from a distance and without the risk to be present in body. Thus, an autonomous weapon is available that can be automated with the passage of time and technological development.

The company that presented it is called Ghost Robotics and they have called the product "Vision 60", and they already have an initial order from the US Army to place the robots around a military base and thus generate a security cordon for the base.

The robots have a vision system with a 30x zoom capability and can be fitted with other sensors to aid surveillance. The firing system of the rifle is controlled by an operator who directs it from a distance and activates the order to fire.

I think that it is only a matter of time before someone comes up with Artificial Intelligence and performs autonomous surveillance functions, which could be quite practical and of great help for the surveillance functions that they are entrusted with.

But the most dangerous thing is that they also give him autonomy in the decision to shoot and can kill people without human intervention. That is a very delicate step that should not occur.

We see continuously that while Technology develops at an accelerated pace, our leaders continue to be very slow in their reactions. And by the time they do, it may be too late.
