Electricity of hydraulic origin is an old acquaintance (it has been known and exploited for more than 100 years) but it is still far from being well used.

I have seen an article from Leads University entitled  A global-scale framework for hydropower development incorporating strict environmental constraints    that has been published by the Nature Water Magazine, and that analyzes all the rivers in the world and their possibilities to generate electrical energy in a sustainable way.

In the photo below you can see a summary of the graphic and colored world, about the possibilities that are available in different areas of the world, to obtain this type of energy, which is non-polluting and the installations can last more than 100 years.

If a country does not take advantage of its hydrological resources, it indicates that their rulers are quite shortsighted, since water is a great wealth, both to produce electricity without polluting it, and for its use in human consumption and agriculture.

According to this study, researchers have analyzed more than 3 million rivers around the world, and have detected more than 100,000 potential locations that meet environmental sustainability criteria.

And extrapolating data, these researchers estimate that more than 5 Petawatts / hour of energy per year could be achieved, which approximately represents 20% of world energy consumption.

I believe that this study should end up on the table of all the rulers of the world who are serious about generating energy in sustainable ways, so that they can analyze what they can do in their country.

Hydraulic energy is a very good complement to solar and wind energy at times when there is no sun and/or the wind does not blow. And the fact of not developing their possibilities is something inexcusable.

We must thank the researchers who have carried out this study, for its wide extent. They have done a really generous job. Thanks.
