Autonomous cars are already used in various cities in the USA, China, etc..., but many people have doubts about their level of safety. It is normal for people to be scared and wary of not seeing anyone behind the wheel.

And the companies that offer autonomous taxi services (Waymo, Cruise,...) are also very interested in convincing potential clients of the safety of their proposals, so that they can access their services with some peace of mind.

If we think a bit, the taxi services offered by people also have accidents, and a few every year, and that's not why we stop using them.

Ultimately, everything is a matter of trust. And that is what the companies dedicated to taxi services with autonomous cars want to transmit the most.

I have seen the summary of some Reports that Waymo has published comparing the driving of a car by means of a driver ( NIEON Non-Impaired with Eyes always On the conflict ), and by means of its autonomous driving system.

NIEON is a driver model that is very attentive to driving, which means that it would be an above average driver. And that's what the Waymo system compares to.

According to Waymo, the NIEON model could prevent 62% of accidents, and reduce serious injuries by 84%. But they indicate that their "system" works best by avoiding 75% of accidents and 93% of serious injuries.

If we take into account the many thousands of people who are killed on the roads every year, I have no doubt that autonomous driving systems will help significantly to reduce these levels of accidents.

Another thing is at what level they are used, because the issue of liability in the event of an accident is decisive, to decide who is responsible and therefore the one who pays for the damage. And I am very clear that the car manufacturers are going to escape from this situation by all the means at their disposal.
