We live in a world of online information, with all kinds of information. Anyone can see in real time what is happening anywhere in the world with the graphic information shown by satellites. You just have to pay for that service.

There are several companies including Capella Space and Planet, which are private companies that provide detailed photographic information accurate to 50cm. of what happens in the world and they do it up to 10 times every day.

Among other things, that is why it has been possible to follow in real time what happened in the war between Russia and Ukraine. Something that had not happened before. And what is clear is that it will continue like this in the future, but with higher levels of information.

What a few decades ago was only possible for the great powers, who transmitted information as it suited them, has now changed radically and is in the public domain. You can no longer lie blatantly, because everyone "sees" what is happening on the earth's surface.

The possible applications are many and varied, since the images can be treated, analyzed, compared, etc... and obtain very diverse information about what is happening in our world.

From visualizing a disaster area (as in the case of a war), to following the path of a ship, a special and dangerous transport, or anything else that comes to mind.

This information is also being used to measure the levels of deforestation that we cause, the variation in the situation of the ice in the polar areas, etc….

And with the data obtained and the appropriate simulation programs, we can predict quite accurately what is going to happen in the future. It is not science fiction, it is pure and hard science, real as life itself.

For those very interested in the subject, Google has a service called Dynamic World that offers a satellite view of any part of the world. It is not as precise (it only reaches a definition of 10 meters), but it also allows detecting changes over time.

Information from satellites is becoming more accessible every day, and one of the most important things about this information is that it is visual, and we all know that a picture is worth a thousand words.
