Birds in the vicinity of airports are a danger to planes, as they collide with them (some enter their engines), and cause serious damage that is very costly even if the plane does not hit the ground. It is estimated that the aeronautical world spends well over 1,000 million dollars a year for this problem.

To solve this problem, all airports have different means to "scare" the birds and make them leave the area. One method is to have birds of prey (falcons and others) to fly in and scare the birds into flight. But this is expensive, you have to train the birds and their keepers, maintain them, etc… and all of that costs a lot of money.

I have seen with surprise and pleasure that a team of researchers have made a drone in the shape of a falcon and have flown it in an airport to scare birds, and it has worked very well.

The drone has two small propellers on the leading edge of the wings and a camera in the head so that the drone operator can see what is happening during the flight.

An interesting video can be seen at: https://youtu.be/c8BxKcD3ff8

This idea is not new, but it is original. There are different types of drones in the shape of birds of prey to scare away birds, both from airports and from farmland, etc…

It is a way to achieve the desired objective that is not very expensive, does not harm the birds (it only scares them) and it has been proven that in the case of hawk-shaped drones, the birds do not get used to them and always flee. It is clear that the instinct to protect against their natural aggressors is embedded in their genes.

I think it's a good way to achieve the desired goal without hardly disturbing the environment. A very good and simple idea.
