Although many people ignore it, the Supply Chain (chain of suppliers) for clean energies is a serious problem for these technologies to be implemented with due speed.

Today, almost all the components that are needed to have clean energy are manufactured in Asia and especially in China. 80% of the world's solar panels are manufactured there, most of the batteries, rare earths, etc ... etc ... and this is a limitation and a risk.

In the last 40 years in the West, manufacturing has been transferred to distant countries with lower costs and we have dismantled our industrial capabilities, becoming dependent on Asian countries to dispose of the products we use every day.

With the Covid-19 pandemic, we have discovered the importance of having a reliable Supply Chain and that “cost” is not the only important thing, and that the most important thing is the availability of the product. Whatever it is.

The application of clean energies is a huge industrial challenge for everyone and the Supply Chain is essential to be able to carry it out. We must manufacture batteries, solar panels, wind turbines, etc ... in large quantities without depending exclusively on China but collaborating with them so that the transition is beneficial for both parties.

Through the news in the newspapers, I have seen that in the USA, politicians from both parties accuse each other about the measures to be implemented, and they delay the measures proposed by President Biden. Meanwhile time passes and they depend more on the Chinese.

In Europe, it seems that the need for a closer Supply Chain is not so much discussed, but we have the problem of our lower industrial capacity (with the exception of Germany) and it will take us years to recover part of what we lost, but it will have to be done and very quickly.

The positive part is that the need for materials is so great globally that even China cannot supply all markets at once, and it should be easy to reach cooperation agreements to distribute the necessary manufactures all around the world.

I think it is time to reindustrialize Europe and Spain. Will we do it ?
