Many may not know it, but some cardboard drones sold by Australia have participated in the war in Ukraine, and with good results.

These are drones made of waxed cardboard (to withstand a little rain) that are shipped disassembled, assembled by hand in a few minutes, and their pieces are joined with elastic bands and adhesive tape. They have a high-resolution camera to send information in real time, and the drone can be launched by hand or from a simple catapult.

They can carry up to 5 kg. charge, and apart from performing surveillance and control functions, they can also be added an explosive charge and carry out an attack on a distant target. Their flight range is 120 km and they cost around $3,000.

With these drones, at the end of August, the Ukrainians destroyed a Mig 29 fighter plane, 4 Su-30 type aircraft, two anti-aircraft missile launching platforms, and an S-300 surface-to-air missile system.

This gives us an idea of how effective some simple systems can be, and the enormous damage they can cause.

It has been said for some time that drones are the air force of poor countries, and apart from being true, powerful states also use drones to carry out operations at a low cost and without exposing their pilots.

Fighter planes are not going to disappear, but they will be accompanied by many drones that carry out relief work. And what is clear is that a military aircraft cannot be parked less than 300 km from the battle line if it does not want to run the risk of being attacked by a low-cost drone.

Drones and robots have forever changed military operations, as well as the jobs of many people. It is a technology that is there, and is going to be used more every day.
