Shortly after it was approved that autonomous cars in San Francisco can work the 24 hours of the day, the test of an autonomous bus service has been launched. Which clearly indicates that this city is firmly committed to the autonomous driving of some public services, and I think it is an intelligent bet with a vision of the future.

Autonomous buses are an emerging technology that has the potential to revolutionize public transportation. These buses are operated without a driver, using sensors and software to navigate the streets and transport passengers safely and efficiently.

San Francisco is one of the leading cities in the development of autonomous buses. The city has been working on an autonomous bus pilot program since 2017, and currently operates an autonomous bus service in the SoMa district.

In a generic way, it could be said that the San Francisco pilot program has been a success so far. Autonomous buses have carried more than 100,000 passengers without any serious incident, and passengers have generally praised autonomous buses for their comfort and safety.

And that has led the City Council to extend the autonomous bus service to other areas of the city in 2023.

It seems clear that the City of San Francisco is committed to the development of autonomous transportation vehicles. The city, along with the companies that offer the services, has invested many millions of dollars in research and development, and is working to create a regulatory environment that is conducive to these autonomous services.

Similar experiences are being carried out in many other cities around the world, since almost all of them see the good possibilities that are offered for public transport in the cities, but perhaps it is San Francisco that is a little ahead. And surely it is because of the many technology companies that are located in its surroundings.

We are still a long way from seeing these services in our cities, but I am clear that it will come sooner or later, even if many oppose it. And there is nothing more foolish than to oppose technological developments that can make our lives more comfortable and safe.
