I don't hear anything but the talking about the great advantages of the electric car, and I recognize that it has some very good ones, but very few talk about their drawbacks, which they also have.

The year 2022 10% of the total cars sold in the world were electric, and are expected to reach 30% in the year 2030, which is positive, and hopefully the growth will be higher.

Apart from the advantage of not contaminating and therefore help us enjoy cleaner air, they have many other good things: they are silent, they have fewer mechanical breakdowns, they have a very good acceleration, their consumption is less than the gasoline, and their maintenance costs are also lower. That the future is going in this direction is clearly beyond doubt.

The biggest drawbacks are the high price (as the batteries are still expensive), and not having many charging points on the roads, although that will be corrected over time.

But they also have other drawbacks that even being minor are there, and you have to know them and take them into account.

The batteries today are heavy, and therefore electric cars are heavier than those of gasoline, and that is a greater risk in the case of accident, since in particular pedestrians suffer much more seriously in case of accidents

If it is added that electric cars generate very little noise in particular when they circulate at low speeds, it makes pedestrians and bicycle users need to circulate with much greater attention. To lessen this problem, some manufacturers have proposed generating a certain noise that will alert those around the car, but no one has yet included this feature in their cars.

Another problem is that they are more affected by any atmospheric phenomena. The batteries work worse at low temperatures, and therefore with the cold it reduces their autonomy; and also are affected by the the salt water, since this is the conductor of the electricity, and in the case of storms near the sea (like tornadoes, etc ...) the electric car can burn, as has already happened in some cases in Florida (USA).

In addition, electric cars have more powerful computers every day, and it is that computer that controls almost all the parameters of the car. All the driving aids are managed by the computer, and in many cases the computer can be updated on-line without having to go to the dealer, but in other cases they must pass through it.

Not long ago Tesla called for revision more than 40,000 cars in the USA to upgrade the system and solve a steering problem.

And something that almost nobody says and that in my opinion is implicit in these cars so modern and so dependent on a computer, is that somehow the users can end up in the hands of the manufacturers.

Because it will be the manufacturers who control via software what the car can do. From the power provided to us by the engine, the radius of rotation of the wheels, the position of the seats, etc. .... and all that will be "options" that will offer us apart, and that will be updated in time, in exchange for a periodic economic amount. We have in the future a serious risk of being continually paying for 'our car'.

In other words, the car will not be ours, and the manufacturers will offer us more possibilities to "enjoy" it, according to the more we pay them. They've learned a lot from the mobile business.
