Most new electric (and some non-electric) cars being sold have various sensors to “see” the environment around them and offer possible driving aids. But some cars (such as certain Tesla models) have cameras to see the actual driver.

In principle, these cameras are placed to visualize the driver and be able to detect possible situations in which the driver gets confused, or falls asleep, or... and be able to warn him of his slip up. Being that these problems are causes of not a few accidents.

What at first would be fine, can turn into something negative when someone is dedicated to watching what the driver is doing without him knowing that they are watching him. Because that is a way of espionage and intrusion into a person's private life without his prior knowledge.

From what I have read, that is exactly what has happened between the years 2019 and 2022 in numerous cases of Tesla brand cars. And the information has been provided by former company workers according to a Reuters report, who were dedicated to observing drivers to try to improve the control system.

The intention of these workers could be good, but the fact was that they were spying on some citizens without their consent, and that is an attack against one of their most fundamental rights, that of privacy.

Today we are surrounded by "sensors" that are capable of detecting our activity almost anywhere: inside our house, in our car, where we move, etc... and that information can be (and is) collected without our knowledge, and constitutes data that can be sold.

Without giving our consent, none of this should be acceptable, and many companies take advantage of our ignorance to obtain good benefits. And to this contributes the neglect of our authorities that do not punish this type of behavior.

For those who don't know, and according to some experts, the new cars that are increasingly interconnected may be capable of generating up to 25 Gigabytes of data in one hour. And that information can go to the "data brokers" so that they continue to do more business at our expense.

Dear friends, citizens are totally helpless in front of technology companies. They know everything about us, and our data is the fuel that drives their business.
