I have seen an application for robots that I loved for its simplicity, and for its easy way of interacting with humans. It is a robot to collect garbage. In practice it is almost just a garbage can that moves on its own and approaches humans to collect their garbage.
It's nothing very sophisticated or complex. It is a simple garbage can with sensors placed on a motorized support capable of moving autonomously. It has multiple cameras to see where people are located, and if they need their trash picked up.
I know that there are other similar applications around the world (in France, etc...) but the video of this robot developed by researchers at Cornell University has been extremely pleasing to me.
A video can be seen at: https://youtu.be/pS5ptE2USSo
It is very charming to see how people interact with the robot, sometimes even help it, and they seem to feel comfortable with it.
Sometimes for something to be useful it doesn't need to be very complicated. And the simpler the things are, the better they work. As someone very well said: Keep it simple, stupid.
