In the world there are only 2 large aircraft manufacturers: Boeing and Airbus, which share the global aeronautics market. And these are the data that I have been able to obtain from the airplanes that both companies have delivered in the last two years.

Entregas de aviones de Boeing y Airbus en 2022 y 2023:

2022:

  • Airbus: 611 aircraft
  • Boeing: 480 aircraft

2023:

  • Airbus: 735 aircraft
  • Boeing: 528 aircraft

In summary:

  • Airbus delivered 124 more aircraft in 2023 than in 2022, representing an increase of 20%.
  • Boeing delivered 48 more aircraft in 2023 than in 2022, representing a 10% increase.
  • Airbus surpassed Boeing in deliveries in both years.

Breakdown by model:

Airbus:

  • A220 Family: 68 deliveries in 2023 (28.3% more than in 2022)
  • A320 Family: 571 deliveries in 2023 (10.6% more than in 2022)
  • A330 Family: 53 deliveries in 2023 (same as in 2022)
  • A350 Family: 64 deliveries in 2023 (6.6% less than in 2022)

Boeing:

  • 737 Family: 396 deliveries in 2023 (10.7% more than in 2022)
  • 787 Dreamliner: 73 deliveries in 2023 (2.8% more than in 2022)
  • 747: 8 deliveries in 2023 (33.3% less than in 2022)

Orders:

  • Airbus: 1,399 orders in 2023 (366 more than in 2022). Although in another source I have read that they had obtained more than 2,000 planes ???
  • Boeing: 971 orders in 2023 (203 less than in 2022)

We see that Airbus also surpassed Boeing in orders in 2023.

Both companies have an order book of thousands of aircraft, around 8,000 for Airbus and about 5,600 for Boeing. So airlines place orders for airplanes that will take many years to receive, but they do so to have some airplanes available within a few years, taking into account the increase in air traffic that will occur.

Airbus' A320 line is complete until 2030, and they intend to increase their production from the current 48 aircraft per month to 75 per month. But from intention to fact there is a long way, and a lot of hard work to do.

The quality problems that Boeing has suffered in its aircraft in recent years have been a great benefit for its competitor, which is reflected very well in the deliveries made and the orders received from customers.

With this panorama, the world of aeronautics seems rosy, but it is not like that at all, since these planes generate environmental pollution that is not at all negligible, and that is very difficult to correct, since it is very complicated and requires a lot of energy to keep a 200-ton plane in the air.

The challenge of aeronautics to meet climatic conditions is more than complex, and it remains to be seen if it can be met, although at the moment almost no one is saying anything because we are still very far from the year 2050, the year in which they have committed to having ZERO net carbon emissions. But that day will come.
