As the prices of sustainable energies (especially solar and wind) decrease, at the same time that the sensitivity of society towards the problem of Climate Change increases, the electric companies change their mix of energy production, and it expects that by 2025 sustainable energies will represent 35% of electricity generation worldwide.

Finally surpassing that produced by coal and gas that will remain relatively stable and below 30%.

You can see a graph provided by the IEA in the photo below, on the expected future evolution of electrical energy sources.

An important problem for these companies are the extreme changes that are taking place, such as droughts and extreme low temperatures, because users consume more electricity at those times and it is very difficult to provide these consumption peaks with renewable energy.

For this, it is necessary that the electrical energy networks have stored energy alternatives (water, batteries, pressurized air, etc…), so that in a few moments they can help place sustainable energy in the network. Which is very easy to say and very complex to do.

Strong investments are required in the electricity supply networks to adapt them to the new needs, and that these energy peaks do not force us to have to consume energy that comes from fossil fuels.

The challenge is very big and we will see how it is resolved.
