Amazon has announced that it will soon begin making deliveries with drones in the United Kingdom. The company has received approval from the UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) to carry out test flights in a 7 square kilometer area in the county of Cambridgeshire.

In the first phase, Amazon will use drones to deliver essential products, such as food and medicine, to customers living in rural or suburban areas. The drones will have a range of up to 25 kilometers and will be able to transport loads of up to 2.3 kilos.

Amazon's drone delivery service is based on a technology developed by the company called Prime Air. This technology uses autonomous drones that are capable of safe and precise flights. The drones are equipped with sensors and cameras that allow them to avoid obstacles and land safely in an area designated by the customer.

Amazon has invested more than $2 billion in the development of its drone delivery technology. The company hopes that this service will be a faster and more efficient alternative to traditional deliveries, and continue with similar experiences that it already carries out in California and Texas.

Drone deliveries offer a series of advantages over traditional deliveries:

  • Speed: Drones can make deliveries in a matter of minutes, while traditional deliveries can take hours or even days.
  • Efficiency: Drones can make deliveries in areas that are inaccessible to traditional delivery vehicles.
  • Safety: Drones are equipped with sensors and cameras that allow them to avoid obstacles and land safely.
  • Sustainability: Deliveries are made with electric drones that do not generate pollution

But drone deliveries also present a series of challenges:

  • Regulation: Regulation of drone deliveries is still developing in many countries, and aerial safety is essential.
  • Cost: Drones are a relatively new technology, so their cost is still high.
  • Environmental impact: Drones can have a negative environmental impact, as they cause noise and other disturbances to people.

Drone deliveries have the potential to revolutionize the e-commerce sector. This service could offer customers a faster, more efficient and safer shopping experience.

According to a Morgan Stanley study, drone deliveries could account for 8% of all e-commerce deliveries by 2030, although that obviously remains to be seen.

The launch of Amazon drone deliveries in the United Kingdom is an important milestone in the development of this technology, because it is one of the first to be carried out in Europe and because of the importance of the company in the online sales market.

This service could have a significant impact on the e-commerce sector and the way consumers receive purchases at home. Of course, this type of delivery seems more suitable for areas where people live in the countryside, but in some places that represents many people, and the experiences obtained can be used to find mixed media in other more populated areas.

One fact seems clear, every day more things are purchased online, and the delivery system is going to evolve using all available techniques, and drones is one of them.
