Indeed, the Scandinavian leader has announced that by 2028 their products will be packed without using plastic. Which is good news and an example to follow.

IKEA has always been known for its positive environmental mentality and for years has been one of the first large companies to take concrete action.

More than 2 years ago, it already announced that by the year 2030 the plastic used in its products would be of recycled origin, which indicates that plastic is an issue that worries them and with good reason, since it is one of the products that takes the longest to degrade in the environment.

IKEA is a large company that uses more than 900,000 tons of plastic for its packaging each year, at a cost of more than 1,000 million dollars. Changing that entire supply chain is a huge effort for IKEA and all its suppliers. They have a tough job for years to come.

At present they already use other products for their packaging and plastic represents around 10% of their needs. But to eliminate plastic completely they have organized a team between IKEA and its suppliers, so that they are all able to carry out their objective.

Currently there are very few companies that tackle projects like this one from IKEA to eliminate the use of plastics, and that is why I think it is important to highlight this and recognize their commitment.

If we really want to avoid the pollution we generate and fight against climate change, the authorities should set targets for companies, especially the largest ones, to change their modes of action.

It is unfortunate, but in general only the obligation and financial penalties make us change our behavior patterns. And so it goes.
