For those who don't know, the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) manages all flight movements in the US, and its flight approvals for aircraft are accepted worldwide. It is the most important Civil Aviation agency in the world.
And with the appearance of drones came the problem of controlling that their flights were safe, that they did not collide with each other during a flight, and that they did not affect the safety of human flights. And we must think that in the future there may be many tens of thousands of drones in the air at any given time, which represents a new and important challenge.
Today, the air traffic around the world is controlled by air traffic controllers, who set the routes and instructions to follow to be able to safely land. With many thousands of drones this cannot be the case, and they are developing an automatic system called UAS UAS (Unmanned Aircraft Systems), and the system that will control all this traffic has been called UTM (UAS Traffic Management).
To sum up, in the future the UTM system will control all drone traffic in the USA, and I suppose something very similar will happen in the rest of the world.

The UTM system is an automatic system that ensures that drones fly safely and that they share their flight information, so as not to interfere with each other. And all this without human controllers to direct them, since decisions must be made in seconds. It is a very complex system that requires great computing power.
This system is being tested in the USA with the participation of drone manufacturers, and within a few years it will be in operation, to ensure that drones fly safely.

As part of this phased introduction, the FAA recently authorized two drone companies that carry out aerial deliveries (Zipline and Wing) to carry out flights using UAS over the city of Dallas, with the proviso that the flights are below 400 feet and avoid air traffic routes.
As we can see, steps are being taken every day to allow drones (of any type) to be incorporated into flights above our heads, and it is necessary that these flights are completely safe, just as airplanes are today.
There is still a lot of work to be done, but it seems that they are doing it, and that is positive.
