I have read a summary of a project carried out with young Africans regarding what they think of their future, and their possible actions. The report is called the African Youth Survey 2022 and has been carried out with more than 4,500 young people between the ages of 18 and 24 from 15 African countries. It is revealing and very worrying.
It is very worrying because young Africans clearly denounce the shortcomings they find in their life systems, and the desire to emigrate to other countries, especially Europe and the USA.
It is estimated that by 2030, almost half of the world's youth will live in Africa. There will be 42% of the world's youth (people between 15 and 24 years old). And if we consider that more than half of them (52%) seriously consider the possibility of emigrating. We find ourselves with a very serious social problem that we should try to avoid at all costs.
A graph that I found on the BBC shows partial information on what is presented on Sheet 17 of the Report. And you can see below.

And it clearly shows the widespread discontent of young Africans about what is happening in their countries.
Their discontent has to do with the lack of jobs, corruption, lack of education, lack of peace and social stability, violence against women, etc…. And all this becomes a lack of future that makes them long to escape to another country where they can find a future.
And if the countries with the youngest lose those young people, what do they have left? Very little future.
European authorities should read this Report on African youth very carefully. We are interested in having a continent close to Europe where people have a future and with whom we can relate in conditions of equality and respect. That would be positive for both parties.
If we were smart we would make an effort to help those African countries so that their young people, who are the most capable part of their future, stay at home and collaborate in the development of their societies.
Will we do it ?
