It has always been known that the APP's on our cell phones get all our information (where we are, who we are with, what we do, what we say, what we buy, .... ), and a long etcetera. They know EVERYTHING about us, but in general we do not care too much because they offer us a free service that is useful for different reasons.

And something they also do is take all the data they get to the servers that are convenient for them. Depending on who is the owner of the APP, they will take the data where it suits them best.

And there begins the "problem" with Tik Tok, because the owners are a Chinese company (called ByteDance and located in Beijing), and in China everything is controlled by the Chinese communist party, and the data obtained by Tik Tok are taken to China to do what suits them best with them.

And that is the "concern" that has begun to be transmitted by the USA. That the Chinese are capable, and of course they are, of obtaining sensitive information on almost 90 million American citizens. And with that information they can obtain other kinds of "things" from them. From blackmail to espionage.

And that's true, but the same could be said about other American APP's that get data from all of us. They can do exactly the same.

The difference, and this is important, is that the Chinese government is a dictatorship where there are no laws other than those that suit them, and the USA is a democracy with a certain submission to the laws. Although there have also been cases in the past where they have circumvented them when it is convenient for them.

But what is very clear is that the data of citizens around the world are in the hands of a few companies that make a lot of money with them, and those data are stored wherever they want.

I think that at the country level, and especially in the case of Europe, it should be required that the data of European citizens do not go outside Europe, and that there is some control over what is done with them. There should be audits of what companies do with them.

And if there is a company that resists this, it is very simple: it is prevented from operating in Europe and that's it.

In our society, the rights of the citizens should prevail over those of the companies, and unfortunately that does not happen, and it is partly because we do not fight for our rights.

We are all very happy and entertained "passing the time" with our cell phones without thinking about other consequences. But we have leaders who should think a little more, and unfortunately they do not.

And let's not fool ourselves, we also have a certain responsibility in this, for voting for useless people who tell us the lies we want to hear.
