Qualcomm announced at the last CES show in Las Vegas that it is fully immersing itself in the computerized electric car business, and for this it offers car manufacturers a hardware and software platform that it has called  Qualcomm Digital Chassis and is based on the technology from its Snapdragon chips.

With this proposal Qualcomm is committed to an electric car of the future that is like a Smartphone but bigger. And they offer the computer hardware and some of the software, so that car manufacturers adapt their modules according to their particular needs.

This movement will not be the only one in the market, as it is expected that Intel will do something similar, and that other companies will imitate them. There is a lot of money at stake and the history of the electric car of the future is yet to be written.

Qualcomm's approach is very smart. It has recently bought new companies with autonomous driving technologies, and offers a global package without putting too much emphasis on autonomous driving, and offering multimedia and safety solutions for passengers.

The fully autonomous car is still a long way off, but driving aids are here and are offered by almost all new cars. And there Qualcomm affects its proposal.

And it is a sufficiently open proposal so that new improvements can be included in the future.

Qualcomm has reached agreements with different car manufacturers such as Volvo, Renault and others to continue working with all of them, and to expand the possibilities of its system.

When I see how the large industrial and technological groups move, I am increasingly afraid of where the users of these future electric cars are left. Well, I see that we are going to be totally in their hands.

They will have all the "data" generated by our electric cars, which will be much more than that generated by a Smartphone, and by selling that data they will obtain very good income. In addition, they will sell us periodically the updates of the software of our cars, and etc, etc ...

And the question that arises is: and who protects us, the users?

I am very clear that Technology does not make us all more equal, but that the powerful are going to be much more powerful every day.
