I have to admit that I like the Metaverse issue, although I don't see it at all clearly. I understand the enormous change that it can mean for many people, even if I don't see myself immersed in it.
And I don't see myself immersed because I like to deal with real people, and I'm not seduced by the idea of dealing with anyone's “avatars”. I feel pretty ridiculous being represented by a doll of myself, and dealing with other dolls of other people.
In the end we see dolls that represent people, but we don't see those people as they really are. And I don't like that at all.
For the rest, the Metaverse appears very interesting for private companies, they are the ones (Meta, Microsoft, and others) that promote it with the aim of collecting data from all users, advertising, selling virtual products, etc … and in ultimately expand their business.

For some "experts" the Metaverse may be the great Computing and Networking Platform of the future. Something one level higher than the current Internet, and that encompasses "everything" that our society may need.
It is a very ambitious bet, which at the moment is a fairly intangible idea with many nuances.
And the good thing about the Metaverse for companies, and the bad thing for users, is that companies will have that future absolutely in their hands. If they get our life to be carried out in their "environment" they will have complete control over our lives. I think that not even in his most pessimistic moments could George Orwell imagine the existence of such a powerful and controlling Big Brother.
Companies that offer entertainment such as Disney, Warner, etc… are already thinking about how they move their theme parks from the physical world to a virtual one in the future. If they got something similar to what they have now, their potential customers could multiply exponentially, and the same would happen with their profits
And the same could happen with many other businesses. But for now this is a theory, which can come to something, or nothing. And Meta's friends are gambling almost everything on it.
But I still don't see that future. Maybe it's that I'm weird, or maybe a little shortsighted.
