There is a fierce battle going on to see who will lead the information systems of cars in the future. Because in the immediate future, cars will have a traction system (increasingly electric), a computer system with great computing power, and an information system.

The information system will provide information on "everything", inside the car but also outside the car, and related to those who travel in it. And that is where Google wants to be strong, and at the moment it seems to be succeeding with the steps it is taking.

It has just introduced  Google HD Maps , which are Google maps in high definition to be used by automakers, and these new maps add detailed information on road signs, lane markings, etc ... , so they are more and more complete maps every day.

In this way, the car's computer, together with the data from the sensors it has installed, has better information to provide "aids" to the driver, and to ensure that in certain conditions he can drive without the need to have his hands on the steering wheel.

Car manufacturers are not good at IT, and for their new cars it's more than possible that they'll be looking to collaborate with the real experts in the field. And that's where Google wants to come in, along with others.

Because there are also others who are positioning themselves, as is the case of Nvidia and the computing system it offers to car manufacturers to be the central computer of the system.

And there also enters Google with its computer applications and APP's in general.

I have read that VOLVO and Polestar are going to include Google HD Maps in their future electric cars to improve the safety and comfort of their passengers. And there are others that are going the same way, as is the case of GM, and it seems also Ford and Renault.

Others like Stellantis are leaning towards Tom Tom for maps, and Amazon Alexa as their digital assistant.

But one way or another, all car manufacturers are going to end up depending on large IT companies to configure the car of the future. Which will be electric, and puting it very simply: a computer on wheels. And in this computer environment, computer experts (such as Google) have a lot to say.

If we widen our vision a little, we can see how Google and others are extending their business into new markets that are emerging. But in order to try to enter these new markets, you have to be very good and have a lot of money to invest in the long term.

And Google knows a lot about that too.
