Most experts predict that human-driven cars will coexist with the gradual introduction of autonomous cars over the next 20 to 30 years, changing the maintenance.

As in the near future, cars will be more and more electric and computerized (that is, more robotized), their maintenance will change drastically.

Besides the computer, the most important parts of an electric car are the battery, the electric motor and the wheels. The rest is very resistant and hardly needs to be changed.

The electric motor is very simple and durable, the battery lasts a few years and the wheels are changed according to their wear and tear.

The rest does not have to be touched, so maintenance work is greatly reduced and with it the work for car repair garages.

The big difference is in the software, but software updates and improvements will be fully controlled by the car manufacturer, and with the arrival of 5G it will be possible to do it online and without having to go to the manufacturer's distributor.

Car manufacturers seem more than willing to charge for these improvements and upgrades as they can be an important part of their future business that earns them regular annual revenue.

Everything indicates that within quite a few (rather many) years, many drivers will end up being passengers. Starting in the cities.

If we think a little more, the electric car has fewer parts so it needs fewer operators to assemble it, and some manufacturers have already announced measures to reduce workers in their plants.

The same with maintenance. Apart from changing the wheels, there is little else to do, and a significant portion of today's car repair shops will not be able to survive

Instead, new jobs will appear to generate software that controls more and more functions and sensors in the car. Companies will appear that manufacture these sensors, etc….

There will be a change in the manufacture and maintenance of these new cars, but make no mistake, the sum of the workers needed for these tasks will almost certainly be less than the current one.

As always, changes force us to "invent" ourselves and adapt to new circumstances. Those who do it first will benefit the most.
