It is well known that the use of AI in mobile phones will exponentially increase data use, and that will generate more work for mobile network operators. And I am very clear that these network operators will be delighted, because the more data that is generated, the more the possibilities of generating business increase.

The transformative impact that Artificial Intelligence (AI) is having in all areas of our lives is undeniable, and the telecommunications industry is no exception. Mobile network operators, aware of the potential of this technology, are enthusiastically adopting it to optimize their operations, improve customer experience and open new business opportunities.

The exponential increase in mobile data usage, driven in large part by the popularization of AI on mobile devices, poses a challenge and an opportunity for carriers. AI, in this context, plays a crucial role on both sides of the equation.

AI offers them the optimization of your Networks and Services:

. Network traffic management: AI allows you to analyze traffic patterns in real time and predict future bottlenecks. With this information, operators can dynamically adjust the allocation of network resources, optimizing performance and quality of service.

. Predictive maintenance: AI, through the analysis of sensor data and network logs, can detect anomalies and predict possible failures in network equipment. This allows operators to carry out preventive maintenance, avoiding service interruptions and reducing operating costs.

. Optimizing energy consumption: AI algorithms can analyze network usage patterns and dynamically adjust the energy consumption of communication towers based on demand. This not only reduces operating costs, but also contributes to environmental sustainability.

. Customer experience management: AI allows operators to analyze user behavior and offer personalized experiences. This includes optimizing call quality, recommending personalized data plans, and proactively resolving connectivity issues.

Among the possible cost savings, I have read about the Joint Venture (called Global Telco AI Alliance) created by the companies Softbank, SK Telecom, Deutsche Telecom and Singtel, to develop services for telecommunications customers. This Joint Venture has 1.3 billion customers in more than 50 countries.

Among other things, I have read that they are developing a “chatbot” to automatically respond to most of the questions raised by the customers of these telecommunications companies. That will greatly reduce the need to hire human operators to perform these functions.

And in addition, some new Business Opportunities are opening up to operators:

. Location-based services: AI, combined with user location data, allows operators to offer hyper-personalized services, such as targeted advertising, point of interest recommendations and urban mobility analysis.

. Data analysis and monetization: Operators have a huge amount of data on the behavior of their users. AI allows this data to be analyzed safely and responsibly to obtain valuable information that can be used to improve services, create new products or even be marketed to third parties.

And the great challenge that is unresolved is that of Data Security and Privacy: The use of user data to train AI algorithms must be transparent and comply with data protection regulations. Operators have the responsibility of guaranteeing the security and privacy of their customers' information.

And all this together with Transparency and explainability: It is crucial that the automated decisions made by AI systems are understandable and auditable. Lack of transparency can generate mistrust on the part of users and make it difficult to resolve problems.

Ultimately, AI is transforming the telecommunications industry at a rapid pace, providing unprecedented opportunities to improve efficiency, service quality and profitability. However, it is crucial that the adoption of this technology is carried out in a responsible, ethical and transparent manner, guaranteeing the security and privacy of user data and contributing to a more inclusive and sustainable digital future.
