The stethoscope is a device for detecting internal noises in the human body that is around 200 years old and is used by doctors around the world. It can also benefit from Artificial Intelligence.
The company Eko Health recently designed an electronic stethoscope, which has now added the ability to send information to the cloud to use AI, and in just a few seconds receive more detailed information on possible heart problems.
The sensor device is the size of a credit card, has a microphone and the electronics necessary to send the information to the cloud for analysis by AI, and receive information on possible heart problems such as abnormal heartbeat patterns, heart valve failure, etc.
The idea and the first products were presented at the annual congress held in Madrid in August 2025 by the European Society of Cardiology, and trials are underway in several English hospitals.

The key points presented and discussed about this innovative device were:
. Early detection in seconds: A study was presented demonstrating that this tool is capable of detecting common and dangerous heart conditions in just 15 seconds. This could revolutionize primary care, allowing for much faster diagnosis and preventing patients from arriving at hospitals in critical condition.
. Significant improvement in diagnosis: In a large study with approximately 12,000 patients, the AI-powered stethoscope proved to be much more effective than traditional ones. It was 2.3 times more likely to detect heart failure, 3.5 times more likely to identify abnormal heart rhythms (such as atrial fibrillation), and almost twice as likely to detect heart valve disease.
Function and technology: The device, developed by Eko Health, simultaneously records heart sounds and an electrocardiogram (ECG). This data is sent to the cloud, where AI algorithms analyze it and send the results to the doctor's mobile phone in a matter of seconds.
This represents a paradigm shift: As highlighted at the conference, the design of the stethoscope had remained almost unchanged for 200 years. This new smart device represents a true "game changer," providing primary care physicians with a simple and quick tool to detect problems before they become serious.
In short, the AI-powered stethoscope was presented as one of the major innovations for cardiology, with the potential to dramatically improve the early diagnosis and management of heart disease in primary care settings.
This is a good way to improve the "humble old" stethoscope. In this case, human creativity and technology never cease to surprise us for the better.
