This isn't necessarily a bad thing. Entertainment is also part of our lives. But it's worth remembering that each generated image requires energy, data centers, and processing power. The important question, therefore, isn't just how many people use AI. We should also ask ourselves what we use it for.

And here we arrive at another, much more delicate issue: profitability. Google is making a lot of money, and its business continues to grow rapidly. In the second quarter of 2026, Alphabet increased its revenue by 24%, while Google Cloud grew by a spectacular 82%. At the same time, the company continues to make massive investments in data centers, chips, and artificial intelligence infrastructure.

But making money with the help of AI is one thing, and making Gemini profitable on its own is quite another. Google doesn't publicly release a specific income statement for Gemini. And something similar is happening with its major competitors. They are all making enormous investments to gain a dominant position in a market that is still being built.

Furthermore, international competition is intensifying. Chinese companies are developing increasingly capable models with very aggressive cost strategies and lower investment, which may force US companies to rethink how much money they need to spend to stay ahead.

Meanwhile, governments continue trying to decide how to regulate a technology that is evolving much faster than the laws.

And perhaps this is the fundamental issue. Artificial intelligence is an extraordinary tool. It can increase our productivity, help us learn, and solve problems that until recently seemed impossible.

But it can also be misused, consume enormous amounts of resources, generate misinformation, or concentrate too much technological power in a few companies. That's why we need innovation, but also responsibility, transparency, and regulation.

The question is no longer whether artificial intelligence will change our lives. That's already happening. The real question is: who will decide where AI takes us and what limits are we willing to set?
