It is not only capable of great effort, but also of extremely precise movements. It can pick up a needle, write with a pen, open a bottle, or gently caress. All of this is thanks to the combination of more than twenty degrees of freedom, dozens of muscles and tendons, and an extraordinary sensory capacity that detects pressure, temperature, texture, vibrations, or slippage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When we think of a humanoid robot, the first thing that usually comes to mind is seeing it walk, run, or maintain its balance. However, the greatest technological challenge lies not in its legs, but in its hands. Replicating such a level of dexterity using mechatronic systems remains one of the great challenges of modern robotics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Although advances in robotics over the last decade have been spectacular, the reality is that the manipulative abilities of a seven-year-old child remain far beyond the reach of even the most advanced robots in the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A child learns almost unconsciously to hold a glass without breaking it, button a shirt, peel fruit, or build a figure with small pieces. For a robot, each of these tasks represents an enormous engineering challenge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The difficulty doesn't lie solely in moving five fingers independently. The real challenge is coordinating those movements while continuously interpreting the information received from tactile sensors and adapting the force exerted in real time. This is precisely where Artificial Intelligence is beginning to make a difference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In recent years, there has been much talk about Artificial Intelligence, but in robotics, one concept is of particular importance: applied AI or embedded AI. It's not simply about connecting a robot to a language model or a cloud server. What's truly interesting is that the robot itself is capable of learning while manipulating objects, accumulating experience and improving its movements just as humans do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It sounds simple enough, but enabling a robotic hand to learn on its own requires enormous amounts of data, highly advanced sensors, and algorithms capable of interpreting constantly changing situations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">AI can teach a robot to correct errors, better calculate the force needed to grasp a delicate object, or automatically adapt its movements when something doesn't go as planned. This continuous learning will likely be one of the biggest drivers of the next generation of robots.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And China is leading this robotics technology race. Currently, no other country invests as much as they do. Every year, they install more than half of all industrial robots deployed worldwide, while developing a vast ecosystem comprised of manufacturers of complete robots, companies specializing in components, and thousands of companies dedicated to industrial automation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Various estimates place the number of Chinese companies dedicated to robot development at several hundred, those specializing in robotic components and subassemblies at several thousand, and those related to automation and industrial solutions at tens of thousands. This vast industrial network explains why China is rapidly gaining competitiveness and is already supplying robotic components even to Japanese manufacturers, historically considered leaders in the sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"500\" height=\"343\" src=\"https:\/\/desdelaterrazadeamador.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/Robot-Manos.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4831\" style=\"width:536px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/desdelaterrazadeamador.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/Robot-Manos.jpg 500w, https:\/\/desdelaterrazadeamador.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/Robot-Manos-300x206.jpg 300w, https:\/\/desdelaterrazadeamador.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/Robot-Manos-18x12.jpg 18w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Specialization can also be a great strategy, as demonstrated by the Chinese company LinkerBot, which specializes exclusively in developing robotic hands for various types of robots. Its catalog includes models with numerous degrees of freedom, advanced sensors, and different configurations depending on the industrial or research application.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You can visit the company's website, currently only available in Chinese, at:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.linkerbot.cn\">www.linkerbot.cn<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This strategy is particularly clever. Instead of competing by manufacturing complete robots, it focuses all its efforts on solving what is probably the most complex problem in all of robotics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But they're not alone. There's also a Swiss company called Mimic Robotics that has unveiled a very human-like hand (Mimic Hand M1) weighing 1.8 kg and capable of handling 25 kg. And I imagine there are other similar companies I'm unaware of.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You can see their website at: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mimicrobotics.com\/\">https:\/\/www.mimicrobotics.com\/<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Naturally, as with any emerging technology company, the biggest challenge during its first few years will be securing sufficient funding until the market matures. Sometimes the difference lies in the strong institutional and financial backing that many Chinese technology companies receive, which facilitates this process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We often wonder why China manages to launch increasingly competitive technological products at prices that are hard to match. And that's no accident. Behind it lies enormous investment in automation, research, highly integrated supply chains, and an industry that is constantly improving its manufacturing processes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When a country automates more, it produces better, reduces costs, and accelerates innovation. Therefore, rather than lamenting international competition, it's far more useful to understand how things are being done and learn from the models that are actually working.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The next robotics revolution probably won't arrive when we see robots walking like people. The day will come when a robotic hand is capable of performing, with the same naturalness as a child, the thousands of small actions we do almost without thinking. That will be the moment when robotics takes a truly historic leap.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And China is trying to lead that change.
