A team of researchers from ETH Zurich, the Swiss federal university of technology, has developed an autonomous machine capable of building a stone wall using stones found in the surrounding land.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The machine, called HEAP, has been designed specifically for this type of task, and is equipped with sensors, cameras and a robotic arm capable of handling large stones (up to 200 kg).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The researchers began by preparing the ground. They placed a series of beacons so HEAP could navigate the construction site. Next, they downloaded a data set of stones and debris that the machine would use to learn how to build the wall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
